About Justice Puryear

Justice Puryear has been on the Court since January of 2001. He has authored some 750 opinions and has consistently rendered a fair application of controlling law. According to the state Office of Court Administration, Justice Puryear was the third most productive appellate court justice in the entire state of Texas last year, demonstrating his work ethic and commitment to his position on the Court.

Serving on a Court that hears both civil and criminal cases, Justice Puryear is the only Justice on the Court to have served as both a trial court judge and criminal prosecutor.

As a fifth-generation Texan and Central Texas rancher, Justice Puryear understands traditional Texas values, such as personal responsibility and respect for private property rights.
