"Justice Puryear is highly regarded as an experienced and knowledgeable jurist. He understands that the role of a judge is to strictly interpret and apply the law... not legislate from the bench. Justice Puryear understands Texas values and is the clear choice in this race. I am proud to support his re-election effort."
– US Senator John Cornyn
"Justice David Puryear is a proven conservative who understands that judges should interpret and apply the law, not legislate from the bench. As a former State District Judge and Texas Supreme Court Justice, I know the importance of highly qualified judges who strictly interpret the law. Justice Puryear is a leader on the Third Court of Appeals whose decisions are guided by law and fact, rather than by personal opinion or policy considerations."
– Greg Abbott, Attorney General of Texas
Dear Friends,
With your support, I was elected to the Third Court of Appeals in 2000. I am now up for re-election and I need your support once more.
The importance of this race cannot be overstated. This Court hears all appeals, in both civil suits and criminal prosecutions, from the trial courts of 24 Central and West Texas counties. More importantly, we hear all appeals involving challenges to state laws, such as those affecting private property rights and those involving tort reform, and all appeals from lawsuits brought against state officials and agencies.
I believe that the role of a judge is to consistently and objectively interpret and apply the laws of the state as they are, not as the judge-or any special interest group-might want them to be.
We need experienced judges working in our justice system. I have that experience and I want to put it to work for you. It's an honor to serve you and, with your support, my voice will continue to work for you.
